What are the best suburbs in Inner West Sydney?
The Inner West Sydney has become a favourite location for professionals and families looking for an area that is still affordable yet offers fast access to the CBD, and all the amenities including schools, park areas, and plenty of choices in restaurants and cafes.
What was once a collection of working-class suburbs, has been remodelled over the last decade into a network of gentrified, community-minded suburbs.
Based on an article by Domain (source), below are some of the most liveable suburbs in Sydney’s Inner West.
Newtown
At just four kilometres southwest of the Sydney CBD, Newtown is a vibrant neighbourhood with lots of entertainment venues such as pubs, live music, comedy, and theatre. Close access to employment opportunities and education also help to put Newton on the map of desirable Sydney areas.
Residents of Newtown also enjoy the variety on offer in places to eat and drink versions of their favourite beverages. Boutique designer shops and fashion outlets, combined with nineteenth-century homes lining the streets adds an air of culture and refinement to the area.
Leichardt
Leichardt is a neat inner-west suburb exuding “Little Italy” charm due to the plethora of Italian cafes and restaurants. The Italian vibe around Leichardt is so prevalent they even have an Italian Association that offers guided tours to visitors which highlight the areas most “Italian” locations.
Balmain
Balmain is a suburb perched on the inner west harbour of Sydney and features quaint pubs, busy markets, and more than a few 5-star restaurants. It’s harbour-side living at its best, and easy access to Darling St shopping increases the appeal.
Balmain East
Balmain East may not be the best location as far as shopping goes, but it more than makes up for it by being one of the safest. Transport options are also considerable in Balmain East, with access to ferries and bus stops making getting around more convenient. Residents of this well-to-do suburb also appreciate the many wide-open spaces.
Drummoyne
Homes with picturesque waterfront views are the main driving force for people seeking an idyllic location for a home. Drummoyne is surrounded by water, with Sydney Harbor on one side, and the Parramatta River on the other creating pristine waterfront views.
Annandale
Annandale is an excellent location for professionals who need quick access to the city, as it is just 5 minutes away. While living close to the CBD can be convenient, it’s not so close that the hustle and bustle are impossible to get away from, with Annandale providing the ideal environment for making you feel like the city is a world away.
Glebe
Glebe is well liked by families because of the educational opportunities, easy access to rail, and the many restaurants and cafes dotting the area. Glebe is also a central hub for heaps of employment opportunities for professionals, with advanced telecommunications services and lots of shopping options. However, Glebe does lose a few points because of its traffic congestion.
Forest Lodge
While crime and traffic congestion push Forest Lodge down a little in its desirability, it does score highly on the availability of jobs, shops, buses, cafes and restaurants. Telecommunication is also highly rated by residents who have made Forest Lodge their home.
