How did it all start? I’ve always had a passion for building. After finishing high school at Sydney Grammar in 1980, I jumped straight into the industry.
In 1986, I started my first business which became a leading commercial fit-out company with national clients such as Austereo (who own 2-Day FM and Triple M), City International Duty Free shops, Franklins and Woolworths shopping centres, Justin Hemmes with night clubs, bars and restaurants as well as private home builds and renovations.
I later changed focus to just the residential home renovations and construction space as I love the more personal aspect of dealing directly with a home owner and helping bring their vision to life.
35 years on, what do you think has made you so successful with clients? I always try to see a project through the eyes of a client, especially when it comes to larger and more complex renovation projects where they naturally have fears and concerns. My job is to help overcome them.
Satisfied customers are the most important asset of any business, and I believe that my attitude to “serve” clients with creativity, compassion and competence makes the difference.
Something you feel proud of?
In 35 years, I’ve never had a reported building issue or complaint.
Passions outside the business? l like to escape to my farm most weekends. It’s a great place to spend with my daughter who loves horse riding and looking after our new calves.
