Your story. How did it all start?
Before becoming a mortgage broker, I was the National Customer Services Co-Ordinator for Key Accounts for a production company.
During the process of purchasing my first property in 2001, the experience with my mortgage broker was unpleasant. The broker left me ‘in the dark’, not communicating or educating me about this significant life event. Frustrated, I took matters into my own hands, following up on my own loan, and tracked it myself.
I knew I had the passion, high-quality customer focus and capabilities to take others through the same journey BUT making it less stressful and more empowering.
So in 2002, I decided to become a qualified and licensed broker. I have never looked back.
Something you are proud of?
Pink Finance was recognised as the 2019 Australian Brokerage Awards Winner for The Social and Community Service Program of the Year.
The national Australian Broking Awards , powered by Momentum Media and partnered by the Commonwealth Bank , recognises the best individuals and businesses operating in the mortgage and finance broking industry.
Your key customer values?
We pride ourselves on being honest, realistic and always keeping our clients in the loop.
It’s paramount for any loan process, especially with the changes in regulations and complexities around bank lending. Even if the answer is NO, it’s important to communicate to clients the WHY and help them safely navigate options.
Your Top 3 tips for anyone looking to refinance?
Keep your loan repayments the same. If you’ve received the benefit of a lower interest rate, this will accelerate your capital repayments and reduce your loan balance faster
Keep your loan “years” the same. Don’t jump from a 15-year to a 30-year loan repayment period as the long-term interest will be higher. If you can maintain the original repayment amount (and years), you’ll build more capital. The nice thing is, you can draw it down as you need it
Consider “debt consolidation” of personal loans ( cars, credit cars etc) as a way to reduce interest expense.
What questions should I always ask a mortgage broker?
How many lenders do you “really” use?
You’ll be surprised to know that whilst many brokers say they have access to 30+ lenders, many only use a small portion of them. This means they may not necessarily consider the best options for their clients.
We have over 40 lenders on our panel and I can safely say we have used 20 of these in the past 12 months as part of going deep and finding the best deals for our clients.
What makes you different from other Sydney mortgage brokers?
We love sharing our knowledge. Educating clients is a big part of what we do. The world of loans and finance is complex and overwhelming and we use our years of experience to give clients the absolute best guidance possible.
Your “WOW” factor?
We’ll do all the running around for our clients, always looking at ways to turn a NO into a positive YES.
What do you love about working in North Sydney?
It has such a great vibe and it’s easily accessible for travelling around to clients.
Passions outside business?
Music! I loving being part of service bands. I used to be part of the Army Reserve Band and now I’m part of the in NSW Fire and Rescue Band.
I also love country escapes. We have a 10-acre property which we are fortunate enough to be able to retreat to on weekends and during holidays.
Giving back to great causes?
Pink Finance strongly believes in supporting our communities. We donate to rural and regional nurses through the McGrath Foundation – to whom we donate 10% of our trailing commissions each month so that they can provide women with breast cancer awareness.
Our donations come at no cost to our clients. This is an ongoing commitment we have made to help women, and families, get healthy and get ahead with their own dreams.
